Unbeta, this is for Nino's birthday for [livejournal.com profile] iloveohmiya and [livejournal.com profile] nino1711azuki

“I don’t want my birthday to be celebrated,” He said, throwing both Sho and Aiba a sorry look just because he had broke the excited two few minutes before. His declination was simple, but damn, he hate it how the other four was throwing him this apologetic look when he said so.

He took a glanced at Ohno, his chest clenched hurt. Even how much he refused to admit, Ohno was one of the reason why he didn’t want to celebrate his birthday.

It’s hurt.

He faked a smile at the other before he grabbed his stuff, leaving the greenroom behind. He walked straight to the lobby, waiting for his manager car to arrived, wondering what he felt at the moment. It wasn’t hurt, it wasn’t happy either. Natural? He can’t say so. In the end, he concluded.

He is indeed lonely.

Nino didn’t really have any memory of his birthday celebration.

When he was about to turn six years old, he saw his father leaving.

It was 2 weeks before his birthday. He asked his mother about it, but instead of answering, she smiled at him and took him to sit onto her lap. She caressed her head lovingly, telling him his father had to go for somewhere.

“Will he come back on my birthday?” he asked hopefully, which had cause the smile on his mother’s lips faded.

He hated it.

He hated it even more when she didn’t reply.

He knew the reason why though. Because she didn’t want to give hope to a six years old to be boy; hoping for his father to come back during his birthday. She couldn’t tell lie to him as well, but at the same time she couldn’t tell the truth.

He celebrated his 6th birthday with his mother, sister and a doraemon cake. He was hoping for his father to come back. But he didn’t.

Nino wanted to ask his mother about it, but remembering how the smile faded from her lips. Nino stopped.

He never asked about it again.

***
He walked into his house, heave a sigh. Instead of turning on the light, he closed the door behind him. he walked, estimating his steps towards the sofa before he throw himself there. It took him another sigh before he brings himself to a sitting position, stared aimlessly in the darkness.
***

His 12 years old birthday celebration wasn’t any better.

He couldn’t make a good friendship with anyone in the school. He ended up being alone most of the time that some people thought he was some kind of weirdo.

People ignored him most of the time, some were even harsher. Especially when he went to his seat in the class and there were nails glued on his chair. There were those people who bullied him in a harsh way too that he couldn’t find a reason why to fight back.

He’s just weak.

And there was his birthday party. And invitation to his classmates a few days before June, 17th.

But after the few days, the decoration looked so damn lonely. As lonely as the house was.

No one turn up. No one except his mother and his sister. Even his favorite doraemon on the cake didn’t excite him. Still, he fake a smile when they sang him that birthday song

That was the first time, he told himself, and it was useless to celebrate one. So he decided to not to do it again.
***
But maybe, he has some memories on his birthday celebration.
***

If Nino had to remember his best birthday ever, it was his 20th.

No one was writing his birthday song like he was writing for the other four. But what was memorable for his was how those silly four, no, three (just because Aiba wasn’t come out with them) appeared out of nowhere, half sober (except for Jun who looked quite sane even though he was giggling so hard) hugging each other while singing a birthday song in two language.
And there was Aiba, appeared suddenly in the middle of the room in a crawling position, a cake was place on his back. The whole room turned silent all of sudden before it was erupt with laughter.

And Nino could say, that was the first time in his life, he smile sincerely on his birthday.

***
And that some memories too, were his precious that he was afraid to remember.
***

Ohno made a surprise on his 27th birthday.

He appeared in front of his apartment house, slightly nervous when Nino started to ask.

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

Ohno bit his lips.

“Ni- Kazu-“

“Hah?”

“Happy birthday,” Ohno said causing Nino to frown. “I love you. Can you give me a chance to enter your life?”

Nino’s heart, only god know how much blood had been pumped by it. It took them a few moment of silent before Nino finally replied.

“You already had the key since long time ago, Satoshi”

And Nino decided, it’s fine if his birthday celebration didn’t have any cake with it. As long he has Ohno.

***
And among those memories too, was too painful to be remembered.
***

“It’s disgusting!” that Old Johnny snapped. “I don’t care how much you love each other but whatever things you have between you, stopped it!”

His mind went blank. His heart broken. It crumbled to ashes when he saw how Ohno nodded to the old man’s words. Their hands unlinked before Ohno made his way out of the president room with him followed him few steps after.

The greenroom turned silent the moment the two of them entered. No one dare to begin, not when they see how both Ohno and Nino made their separate way in the room. With one at the makeup table while Nino at one corner of the room, pretending like nothing had happened.

Until one of their manager came in with a dull face, Nino knew everything had went worst from there.

“All you can do is to pretend like nothing had happened between the two of you,” was what the manager had said. Every word felt like stabbing him, weakened him to the point that he refused to live again.

But it hurts even more when he saw Ohno nodded to the man’s word.

Ohno agreed, and they broke up on Nino’s 30th birthday, leaving him alone that night, wondering if the 3 years relationship ever worth.

***
On Nino’s 31st birthday, he spent his night waiting.

The first one to wish was Jun. A simple message came at 00.01am saying ‘happy birthday. I’ll treat you next time we had the chance’ and that made him smile.

Second message came exactly 7 minutes after. This time, from Sho. He barely remembered the message because well, Sho asked him to choose one of the listed hamburger restaurants without telling the reason why. In the end he chose not the fancy one in which Sho took him to a week later.

Third message was from Aiba. He remembered muttering ‘stupid’ just because of the message. “Happy birthday. Just to remind you we have a baseball game tomorrow. Don’t lock your door or I might have to use the key you provide me last time. See you,”

It was 2 in the morning.

Another message came. But no. it wasn’t from the one he was waiting for. Instead, it was another message from Aiba.
“Don’t drink too much, Nino. It’s not good for your health,”

That was when he started to shed his tears.

There’s no reason for him to cry. It was over between him and Ohno since a year ago. But, why was it so hurt to see Ohno with someone else, a girl to be exact, laughing happily as they walk out of the private bar? Why was it stabbing his heart again and again when he watched the two kissing before they hopped into the taxi in which then drove them to a destination that Nino refused to even think?

For a moment, he kept staring at his phone screen, deliberating whether he should send a message to the man. He had type the words, only a decision he should made; whether he should press the send button or not.

“In those three years we’ve been together, does it worth?” was what written. But then he decided, it’s best to move on. The message was then deleted, before he slipped under the blanket, hoping that his breath will stop breathing for Ohno.

Ohno message did came somewhere in that day. Instead of reading them, he deleted the message without reading it and pretended like it never arrived at the first place.

***

He brings his legs closer to his chest before resting his chin onto his knees.

It has been 20 years since he decided to not celebrate one. But within those 20 years, things happened that it stayed in his mind. And it hurts. Even the beautiful memories hurt him hence there’s no reason for him to create another one.

But who is him to decide? In another words, who is him to push them away?

He curses himself when he heard the sound of the door opened. He doesn’t need to turn just because he knows who. But when the voice starts talking, he gasps.

“It’s not that he doesn’t want to be here, Nino. But he said, if he’s the reason to your sadness, it’s better if he’s not here,”

“Sho-chan-“

“It’s so dark in here, Nino. I’m sure that you will never know there are other people beside me too,” Sho says before he switches on the light.

Nino turns only to see Jun and Aiba standing next to Sho. Closing the door behind them, slowly they made their way to him, taking their seat with Aiba and Sho sitting next to Nino.

“We don’t buy that ‘I don’t want my birthday celebrated’ crap. But because you say so, there’s no cake for you this year,” Sho says, wrapping his hand along Nino’s shoulder.

Nino clicks his tongue

“So stubborn. Besides, there wasn’t one last year though,” Nino says, trying to hide his feeling at the moment.

“You’re bitter,” Aiba says, laughing. “But while we’re here, why don’t we ask Jun-kun to cook something for us and do something that you love throughout the night?”

“Yeah. I’ll cook something delicious for you. While waiting, please play with your game,” Jun says, taking all the stuff he had bought earlier, making his way to Nino’s kitchen before Nino can protests.

It took them a moment of silent, until Sho followed Jun to the kitchen (which ended up Jun yelling for Sho to stay away) and Aiba giggled before he started to set up the game console.

Nino was about to help when a message came in and opened it to see Ohno’s name on his screen.

“I just want you to know, those three years with you, was the best time ever happened in my life. Apparently, I’m a coward for not trying to fight for us. Happy birthday, Nino. My only wish for you is one day, you’ll find someone better than me. And when the time comes, I wish for your happiness with that person. And when that day comes too, I will try my best to move on from us.”

“Baka,” he mutters, shedding his tears before anyone can see it, making his way to Aiba and pretend like nothing happened by laughing his heart out that night.
