Note: inspired by fuku arashi, the part where Ohno told about the pendant he has with nino.
“Let’s buy the same necklace with the same pendant.”
That was what you said years ago. How many years was that? It feels like yesterday. You suggested it when you saw that pendant he wore. It’s a miracle when both of us like it at first sight.
Wrong. I like it. You don’t.
You know how much I love you. I refused to be a coward when I decided to confess to you. But you left me with no answer. You left me with a thousand thoughts about the possibility that you might have even loved me a little. You let me hope more when you let me touch you, kiss you once, for fanservice purposes you said.
And I keep hoping you will love me in return. And when you told me to have the same necklace, my hope went even more. He finally opened up to me, is what I thought.
When was that? 2005? 2006? We went there together, hand in hand and we bought the same thing for the second time in our life. I still remember how happy I was that time, and how bright your smile was when you put it around your neck.
And then we showed it to the other members. You looked so happy when he saw that. You let him touch that pendant, and we enjoy the fans screaming for our new ‘similarities’.
I am happy. So happy that it makes me too blind to notice.
You didn’t do that for me. You didn’t suggest that for me. It was your own selfish need. Your own effort to make him look at you, to notice your feeling for him.
For 5 years I lived in lies, in thought that you loved me. But it never happens. Instead, you get what you want, and all I get is pain.
“Thank you for always being my bestfriend, Kazu,” is what you said to me.
“I love you,” is what you said to him before you walked away with him, hand in hand the same way we did the time we went to buy that necklace.
I wipe my first and last tears for you. I fake a smile when I greet you the very next morning. The necklace that I used to wear all those year, I pull it off. I refuse to wear it anymore. It brought me hope, hope that never arrived.
It has been a year since I stopped touching and groping you like last time. You look so happy with him. I don’t want to ruin that. Hence I decided this is the best for us. For all of us. I want to stop being awkward. And I want to give myself a new hope. A hope that I know will come to reality.
“Can I talk to you?” I approach Jun that day. You were sitting beside him.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“Remember that pendant the three of us use to have?” Jun scratches his head.
“Ahhhh… that one. I lost it.”
“Good. Here. I'm giving this to you.” I hold out the necklace to him causing you to widen your eyes. Unexpected? I think that too.
“It’s a late birthday present,” I say, faking a laugh.
“You wore that for too long,” Jun says while laughing. You don’t even show a reaction.
“Don’t worry princess. I sent it to the shop for cleaning. It looks like new now. You should wear it with him. He has one right?” It sounds like sarcasm to my own ears, but both of you laugh. I could see you faking it, though.
I bid the two of you goodnight, before I walk away from the greenroom, leaving the two of you to your own happiness.
I’m finding mine too. Hence when he holds out his hand for me, I took his hand into mine, walk away toward a future I don’t where it leads us.
